I’m sure many of you are like me and have been insanely busy these last few weeks as summer wound down and school started back. Whether you have kids in school, are in school yourself or have a job that has anything to do with school, you’ve been busy. My job keeps me busy working with the local schools during the first few weeks on top of being in school myself. As such, my console/PC gaming time has dropped to a near extinct level, and yours may have too. But have no fear, I bring you glad tidings in the form of a classic game many of us grew up with and can be played on the go…X-Men Arcade for iPhone.
I really can’t count the number of hours, or quarters, I spent playing this game when I was a kid. I loved it and was pretty bummed when they started discontinuing the machine. So when I read about it a little over a month ago I downloaded it. I played it a few times but didn’t really get caught up in it until two weeks ago when school started in my area. I found myself playing every chance I got just to get my gaming fix. This game is the purest kind of fun I’ve ever had iGaming.
The game is pretty much exactly how I remembered it. Walk in a straight line and beat ’em up. What more could you want? Even today I still almost exclusively play as Wolverine or Night Crawler, just like I did more than 20 years ago when I was a five year old at the bowling alley or pizzeria or grocery store or any other place that had this machine.
Even as I sit here writing this I went into the game to check on something and ended up playing through a level.
Go buy this game today. It’s only .99 and worth every last one of those pennies. You can find it in the iPhone App Store.
A document recently surfaced containing several new patents from Apple. Among these patents were plans for a dual shock controller. The controller, which holds a striking resemblance to the Playstation 3 controller, is fairly unimpressive. What’s intriguing; however, is what this might mean for the gaming industry.
Early rumors and speculation are pointing to the possibility of the controller working with Apple TV, which has not been as successful as the company had hoped, but that’s not coming from Apple and neither is any other info about the game pad. The picture also seems to show the controller somehow interacting with an iPhone.
So is it possible we could see console gaming hit iOS? Do we want that? (Yes, I do. Very much.) Maybe, but if that’s the case Apple needs to hurry with development and production because a few experts are already forecasting this coming generation to be the last console generation.
What do you guys think? Is the pad for gaming? Apple TV? A really lame way to use your iPhone/iPod/iPad? Do you want to see Apple enter the console gaming market? What kind of exclusive titles would Apple have? Leave your comments below.
Disclaimer: As I sit down to write this I’m fully prepared for the heat I’m going to get off of it. In fact my wife has not stopped giving me the death stare since I ran the idea by her…a week ago. I mean, I’m getting ready to attack what most consider a sacred thing in the gaming world. Here’s to making gamers every where hate me!
Nintendo has opted not to no longer take part of Gamescom. Here’s their official statement:
“Although Gamescom is one of the most important fairs of the year for us, we’ve decided not to take part this year. Instead we plan to broaden our post-E3 activities to introduce our retail and media partners to the Wii U and the newest titles for the Nintendo 3DS. On top of that, as part of the pan-European marketing, PR and event activities for later this year we are planning a whole array of events that will offer our fans the opportunity to try out our latest titles. We’ll have more information about that soon.” – Nintendo Germany spokesperson Silja Gulicher
Larger companies tend to outgrow conventions all the time. Just this year was Microsoft’s final appearance at CES, the largest software and technoligy show on the planet. CES just didn’t line up Microsoft’s product release scheduling, and it just didn’t make fiscal sense to try to accommodate. So by going the route of Apple and holding their own events, Nintendo will have full control over the timing of the event which will no doubt accommodate to their own product release schedule, and they won’t have to contend with rival companies by having 100% of the event’s exposure. If other companies could afford it, I’m sure they would go the same route.
It’s February again and that means its Valentine’s day is coming up. Yes, contrary to the popular belief that gamers are hateful, foul-mouthed individuals incapable of maintaining a relationship (or personal hygiene), inside that hairy surface lies a heart yearning for attention from another sentient being. Yes, love exists in everyone, no matter how geeky that person may seem. For those of you who find comfort in the more technologically affiliated individual, I bring you something that may or may not tickle their fancy. Behold! Valentines Cards for nerds!
My personal favorite:
These are all pretty good. Definitely would put a smile on an avid gamer’s face.
Yes, this kid with the Xbox remote in hand had to make a choice he made the correct one. He picked gaming over bitches, while his best friend is making out with his sister he is profusely leveling up in Call of Duty: Black Ops. Keep at it kid one day you will learn to balance gaming and bitches….mostly because you won’t have any bitches to balance(did I just piss off the community?).
GameStop has recently taken $100 million dollars out of their budget to purchase Spawn Labs and publisher Impulse. GameStop is going to launch a games on demand system and a down loadable store. I think this is a major step for GameStop considering that they really needed a games on demand store to be able to compete with Steam and EA’s on demand store.
Well GameVain can’t always be everywhere at all times were are not God just pretty close. Anyway the guys at Machinima just did a video on the roundup of all the stuff that happened Day 1 and Day 2 at PAX EAST. You should probably check it out below.
Yes I couldn’t believe it at first sight either but this man is the voice of Super Mario. He is actually the voice behind a ton of characters in the Mario universe its quite cool. He seems like a cool guy and I got mad respect for him even though he looks like a giant cue tip. Check out the video below its quite cool!
