Bioshock Infinite’s Complete Heavy Hitters Series

To heighten anticipation for Bioshock Infinite, the folks at Irrational Games have released a series of videos featuring developer insight on some of the more powerful enemy classes from the game; and a few days ago the final installment of the Heavy Hitters Series was released.  This featured the Siren, a freakishly-scary looking enemy capable of raising the dead with the power of her voice.   To see the siren in action as well as the other enemies from the Heavy Hitters series, check out the videos below.

Bioshock Infinite: Heavy Hitters #4 – The Siren

Square Enix Game Lineup for PAX 2012

Square Enix has been quite the busy publisher as of late.  At this year’s Penny Arcade Expo East (April 6-8), they will be previewing a whopping six new games at their booth.

PAX East attendees are invited to preview and play the following Square Enix titles:

Sleeping Dogs™ – the free-roaming, undercover thriller set in Hong Kong’s Triad underworld will feature a playable demo that encapsulates the game’s combat, narrative, driving and open world elements.

THEATRHYTHM™ FINAL FANTASY® – the first-ever music-themed title that commemorates the FINAL FANTASY franchise’s 25th anniversary merges rhythm and role-playing game genres.

Quantum Conundrum™ – show attendees will be among the first members of the community to play the first-person environmental puzzle game from Airtight Games and Kim Swift, co-creator of Portal.

HEROES OF RUIN™ – visitors who demo the epic action-adventure title for Nintendo 3DS™ system can receive a raffle ticket for a chance to win their very own Nintendo 3DS™ system; those who upload photos of themselves with hero weaponry props (available at booth) to their own Facebook page can earn another raffle ticket for the drawing.

WAKFU® – the recently launched MMORPG from Ankama Studios offers attendees the chance to demo 12 available classes. Upon request, the first 1,500 visitors will receive an exclusive PAX East in-game item, as well as two weeks of free premium game time. Fans will also be eligible to spin the WAKFU Prize Wheel for a chance to win branded merchandise.

Risen 2: Dark Waters™ – player decisions will help shape their world in the next installment of Deep Silver’s open world RPG. Featuring a swashbuckling pirate theme, a hands-on demo awaits intrepid buccaneers at the Square Enix booth.

Additionally, Square Enix will host an exclusive evening panel, featuring a gameplay demo and Q&A session with IO Interactive for the much-anticipated fifth entry in the classic HITMAN® franchise, HITMAN: ABSOLUTION™.

I’m not a big rhythm game fan, but I can’t help but love the idea of THEATRHYTHM.  Any video game based off the brilliant music of final fantasy is sure to be fun. Also, I’m not sure why Risen 2: Dark Waters is at the Square Enix booth seeing as it will be published by Deep Silver.

Anyways, if you’re going to PAX East 2012, be sure to check out the Square Enix booth (Booth #850) and the rest of the Exhibitors at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center.

Set the Mood With this Sexy Triforce Lamp

It may not light the room very well, and it may just be for novelty, but I’d like to think there is no classier way to set the mood than with a desk lamp powered by your own power, wisdom, and courage. You can get your own HERE for only $10 (+plus shipping).

Mass Effect 3 Ending Controversy, $1k worth of Cupcakes?

Mass Effect fans are, obviously, pissed about the way the third game ended though have decided to send sweets to show how angry they are. 402 cupcakes to be exact. Fans have decided to send cupcakes to Bioware worth over $1000. “This is our way, as fans, to drive our message home, but in a (literally) sweet way,” explains the protest’s page: “In this case, the cake is NOT a lie!”

The cakes are going to be colored red, green or blue, and frosted with the letters A, B or C in order to explain that the choices “between three fairly similar things is not a fair thing to give someone.”

Kingdom Hearts: Dream Drop Distance – New Deets!

– Sora and Riku are taking on the trials of the Mark of Mastery to awaken worlds trapped in sadness and sleep
– this will let them become Keyblade Masters
– this will also allow them to defeat Xehanort, who has been revived
– story involves flashbacks with Xehanort that come from his perspective
– Axel will be returning as well

Epic Mickey 2: The Musical

When one thinks Mickey Mouse, one thinks Disney. And when one thinks Disney, one may think musicals. And when they think of Disney musicals, they think of songs like this. The question shouldn’t be “why?” but rather “why not?”

“Indeed, if you’re making a Disney game, why not a musical? Ever since the very first Mickey Mouse cartoon, Steamboat Willie (one of the first to feature synchronized sound), the studio and music have been intertwined. It’s doubtful Snow White and the Seven Dwarves would have been the megahit it was without “Whistle While You Work,” “Heigh-Ho,” and “Someday My Prince Will Come.” Many people associate Disney with the great songs created for their films in the late ’80s and ’90s, including Aladdin’s “Friend Like Me” and The Lion King’s “Hakuna Matata.””

It’s only natural since Disney has a rep with these kinds of things. Epic Mickey 2, apparently, will be part musical as well. This isn’t the first time a game has done this as Nightmare Before Christmas had this a few years back. The only difference is that it’ll feature original songs in the game so that’s something to look forward to. Yes, you should be excited. What’s Disney without its music?

Yakuza: Dead Souls Controls and Gameplay

A video has been released of the Japanese game Yakuza: Dead Souls and features some zombie killing goodness.

The game play is very very slightly similar to a western game I think I’ve seen before, though, but I can’t seem to put my finger on it. Other than that, it shows off the RPG element like leveling up your head shot skill and the ability to push off zombies from you faster. And by the looks of it, there are a LOT of skills so that would open up hundreds of different ways to build your character. Which is pretty cool.

Catholic Preist Accused of Owning Child Porn… on his DS

First off. Really, Catholic Church? Again you seem to be having trouble understanding the issues with child porn? /Sigh

The culprit is Rudolph “Rudy” Carl Bullman, 67, a priest at Risen Christ Parish in Kalispel.

According to charging documents filed Feb. 29 by Flathead County Attorney Ed Corrigan, the investigation into Bullman began last October when a woman called authorities to report that a Nintendo DS game console she’d purchased from Bullman contained photos of nude and underage boys.

On Dec. 16, a detective with the Flathead County Sheriff’s Office interviewed Bullman, who admitted using the Nintendo to view gay pornography but said he only accessed websites that clearly stated the subjects of the photos were over the age of 18. Bullman said he also viewed pornography on his computer, and agreed to let the detective search the machine.

Bullman, a retired Libby millworker who entered the Catholic priesthood at the age of 55, faces a maximum of 10 years in prison and a fine of $10,000 if convicted of the charge.

I love how he denies the child porn, but admits to viewing gay porn.  Yea, the church is gonna love having  to deal with both issues in the likely event he gets convicted.

Japan <3 Nintendo, says a Recent Poll

In a recent Weekly Famitsu, readers were polled on various video game related questions.   Check out some of the results below.

As you can see above,  out of the possible 2,000 or so people who participated in this poll, almost half (or around 900) have either a DS or a Wii.  That’s a lot of Nintendo love.  Poor PS vita and Xbox 360 are left in the dust.

Pretty similar to the previous chart.  “Other” is probably referring to games on the cell phone, so it’s no surprise that it dominates the other categories in this response.  The rest of the results remain relatively unchanged.

The stat that stands out the most here is the PS Vita column.  The demand for the Vita is high and yet if you look back at the first chart, very few people actually own one.  I’m sure they are most likely waiting for a price drop before they commit.  Everything else looks pretty standard though.  A good game seems to carry the most influence when deciding which console to go with.

This is perhaps the most shocking result:  Japan seems to not care about online content.   For the most part, the general feeling with Americans is that we can’t seem to get enough of it.

So there you have it, just a little peek into the Japanese gaming mindset. Pretty interesting stuff.

WWE Wrestlefest App Update!

THQ and WWE Games have issued an update for their mega-popular itunes app, Wrestlefest. Now, you have access to some of the hottest new stars and two new legends, as well as the Wrestlemania 27 ring! Let’s review each of the characters, shall we?

Yokozuna: The entrance-wear is spot on. The only thing missing is Mr. Fuji. Yoko is wearing his black and white robe. In the ring, Yokozuna looks a little slim for a man that is 600+ lbs. He is wearing his signature Red Tights with Black Sumo-diaper thingy (please correct me) and has what seems like The Rock’s move set with the exception of various Banzai Drops.

Sgt. Slaughter: He looks like the classic mad man that crowds in the 80’s enjoyed. Fitted with hat and mirrored glasses during his entrance, he rocks the black unitard with camo shirt underneath. Move set is pretty basic and almost copied from WWF Slamfest’s version of The Sarge.

Alberto Del Rio: He was nicely done. His character styling is a throwback to a Mike Tyson’s Punchout Character. He struts to the ring like he really does with his long white scarf. In the ring, he has 2 customized moves (that I know of) being the Backbreaker and his signature cross armbar.

The Miz: Of the new characters, I’m least impressed with him. First off, his hair is light-colored so he resembles Chris Jericho a moreso than the Miz. I have yet to do his finisher because of the random finisher glitch. He went through his custom motions and then DDT’d my opponent. The attire looks good, but I still think he’s more Jericho than Miz.

Zack Ryder: Somebody at THQ must be a HUGE Zack Ryder fan. This one is the most detailed character in the game. He walks to the entrance in a killer Saved By The Bell styled Purple Jacket with headband and sunglasses on playing to the crowd. In the ring, Zack’s attire is spot on to be modelled after the Z! True Long Island Story logoing. He has a killer tan, five o’clock shadow, and spiked hair (THQ definitely knows how to take care). He even does the WWWYKI Fist Pump! In the ring, Zack does his signature fist pump before delivering the Rough Ryder finisher.  Best character in the game! Nicely done!

The Wrestlemania 27 ring is just kind of meh for me. It doesn’t add anything unique to the game. You rarely see the ring apron (which is all that is really changed), so it really doesn’t matter to have the ring. The only ring, I’d be interested in is the Blue Mat WWF Slamfest ring. It was just kind of cool. Give me that one!

If you remember my initial review of the WWE Slamfest app, I said that it would be cool if Yokozuna was added to the game and then placed as the “boss” for the WTWM campaign. Hopefully when I go through it with Ryder, things will be a little different.

It also has been reported that WWE Wrestlefest will soon be hitting XBLA and PSN for download. No further details or dates have been given, so keep your eyes and ears open!

Thanks for looking!
